Markets, Mothers, & Memorial Day // May 2026

,

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a lovely morning, afternoon, or evening! This month was full of nonstop holidays and busy-ness and family time. That’s not always a bad thing. It felt pretty exhausting, trying to cram things into one day or just figuring out a schedule, but I look back on these memories and events with such fondness! I anticipate even more busy-ness and spontaneity in June, but I know God has blessings planned all throughout!

Adventures

Market Season

My older sister, Emma, had her first market of the season! It was hosted by a nonprofit cat shelter, so we got explore other vendors AND pet a bunch of kitties (going inside for the kitties was a lifesaver amidst the cold wind and weather!) My niece was there, too, and she thoroghly enjoyed the kitties, her mama’s products, and saying “hi” to the other vendors and market-goers. It was also my youngest sister’s first time at a market, AND my brother-in-law and his mom were there, so it was still a lovely time with family despite the biting weather!

psst… my sister is taking a break from markets in June, but if you still want to buy her cute stationary products (or just don’t live in Western PA) check out her shop, Sylvanian Emporium, with this link or on my Market page!

Track Meets

My youngest sister does pretty much everything under the sun; baton twirling, volleyball, basketball for a bit, wants to take figure skating lessons, but tried out the track team this year! She’s always been rather athletic, and she killed it her first meet, getting second place in her first-ever long-jump (beating a lot of girls who PR’d)! I was able to watch her second meet along with both my parents, four of my other siblings, and my niece! I had never been to a full-on track meet before (I only did the mandatory Track and Field Day when I was in school…), and it surprised me how long it took, how many kids there were, and the speed/athleticism of some of these kids! It was tons of fun, and I got plenty of exercise jogging back and forth with my little niece who is now learning the joy of running. We stopped for ice cream afterward (I got a frosted coffee), then watched some Pride and Prejudice!

Mother’s Day

Since getting married and moving out of my parents’ house, I now live 35 minutes away from them, which isn’t a long trip, but can certainly feel like it on holidays like this! We started the day at church with my husband’s parents, which is in our area, then drove down to see my mom and family, drove a bit north again to see my grandmother (and almost all my extended family for the first time in a while), then continued back to my in-laws’ house. It was lovely to celebrate this day and to appreciate all the mothers in my life (including my own sister and sister-in-law!); it was especialy wonderful to give love to my own mother and her absolute superpowers with running a house of nine kids!

Free Concert

The Youth Symphony Orchestra in my city had a free concert that my husband heard about, so we had a little date night! It was on a Sunday, so we were already dressed up from morning church, matching our outfits, of course! We got some dinner at Chipotle (one of our favs when/if we do ever eat-out), drove to a parking garage, then walked to the beautiful concert hall. We got there just in-time and were even able to meet the morning host of the classical music radio station in our area (one of our favorite stations, aside from sports). It was such a lovely time to get out, spend time together, and bask in some beautiful, moving, live music!

Memorial Day

My family hosted a cookout/movie night the Sunday before Memorial Day, featuring The Sandlot and Field of Dreams, since most of my siblings and I had never seen those movies. We had my burgers, kielbasa, sauerkraut, and a ton of other foods in between each movie and my sister even brought a homemade non-alcoholic Limoncello mixer which made a nice mocktail to enjoy, too! On Memorial Day, itself, my husband and I split up to watch two different parades, then joined back together again at his uncle’s house for some swimming, even more burgers, and I played catch with a baseball for the first time!

Vocational Steps

If you’ve checked out my About Me page, you’ll know that I’m training to become a birth and postpartum doula! I have a few connections through my church and have been discerning this path for a couple years. However, since getting married and losing my previous job, I decided to jump fully in; starting the coursework, meeting with other doulas and joining a group, and even shadowing births! I shadowed my first birth this past month: it was a home birth and such a lovely experience. Now, I was there for about thirteen and a half hours and definitely didn’t eat/sleep enough, but I learned so much and the “home” aspect of it was so relaxing and chill. I have five more births to potentially shadow this month, and I’m so excited to continue down this path!
