Holy Week, Musicals, & Birthdays // April 2026

,

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a lovely morning, afternoon, or evening! Slowly, I’m becoming more on-time with these recaps! April was a beautiful month of surprises, good news, and life blooming again. I love the summer and warmer months and this month of April was the perfect introduction to that wonderful time of the year again!

Adventures

Family Birthdays

We celebrated quite a few birthdays this month! First, it was my nephew’s fifth birthday, and we went to a neat safari/zoo the day-of. Then, we got food and dyed eggs, making it a whole-day of family time! We celebrated my husband’s dad’s birthday twice; dinner with all my in-laws, then dinner the day-off with just my husband and his parents. In between those two dinners, was a party for my sister’s husband at their house, complete with poker and other games, lots of food, and some sidewalk chalk with my niece!

Two Musicals, One Day

Two of my younger brothers were in musicals that happened to be performing on the same weekend. My husband and I decided to make it easier on ourselves and see both shows on the same day. My youngest brother was in Grease with a home school group, and my second-youngest brother was in Bye Bye Birdie with his school, so it was fun little retro vibe that day! I didn’t know much about either musical, especially, Bye Bye Birdie, but I was pleasantly surprised—they’re both hilarious! It was great to have some family time and reconnect with folks I knew when I was in school!

Holy Week

We started Holy Week with a Palm Sunday service at my church, followed by family supper. Then, we had a lamb dish on Good Friday before another church service. Holy Saturday was mostly my nephew’s birthday, but we dyed some eggs. Resurrection Sunday was church then a lot of family time! I always love to spend Holy Week with family and in church as much as possible. It sets the tone for the week and helps to immerse me into the history of what happened and the present reality of peace and joy that I can live in!

An Unexpected Date

My husband asked me randomly if I wanted to go to a Pirates game while I was studying. Of course, I said “yes,” and he proceeded to tell me that there was a woman giving away four free tickets to that day’s game… but she was an hour away, and the game started in half an hour. We went on a wild ride anyway, traveled up and down, and got to the game during the fifth inning; we heard the crowd roar from a home run when we were right outside the stadium. While we were getting our tickets scanned, an older couple came up and said they’d buy the extra tickets off us, but we ley them off the hook, because they were free anyway! It ended up being such an amazing experience to watch the game, meet fellow Christians, and then explore the stadium property (it had so many historical spots around it!) And, it was our first live sports game together and the perfect opportunity to have a long-awaited date night!
