Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a lovely morning, afternoon, or evening! I don’t know about you, but April feels like it’s been going on forever. However, that’s not entirely bad; I enjoyed this month. From trying press-on nails for the first time to various “sister outings,” I had fun. My word for April 2023 is “thrilling.”
– thrilling –
[ thrih – lihng ]
DEFINITION: producing sudden, strong, and deep emotion and excitement.

– Easter Festivities –
As a Christian, Easter is not just about eggs, bunnies, candies, and such. It celebrates Jesus’ death on the cross and redemption for all who believe. The Sunday before Easter was Palm Sunday (Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem), then Maundy Thursday (The Last Supper), Good Friday (the crucifixion), then finally, Easter/Resurrection Sunday (when Jesus was resurrected). My mother’s family is Italian, so every Easter season, we make Pastiera Napoletana and, recently, Pane di Pasqua. Pastiera is an Easter tradition because you have to soak the grain (farro) for three days (symbolizing Jesus’ three days in the tomb). Pane di Pasqua looks like a nest, symbolizing rebirth/new birth like us being born again through Christ’s death and resurrection.
– Sister Outings –
Since my older sister got her license last April, she would occasionally take me (and sometimes my younger sister, Briana) out and about. Some recurring destinations have been Target, Starbucks, and/or a cute little town full of storefronts about twenty minutes from home. We had two this month. One with just my older sister and me, where we went to Dunkin for coffee, ALDI for some snacks, Bath and Body Works, then ended at my sister’s house to eat, chat, and watch more Stranger Things. The second was with my older sister and younger sister. We went to Starbucks, Target, dropped my younger sister off at home, then went to Hobby Lobby. I love these little outings because I not only get out of the house (a rare occurrence), but I also get to spend time with my sisters; one is married and out of the house now, and the other works two jobs and is finishing up school.
– Book Club –
Late last year, the author Brandon Sanderson announced that he wrote four books during Quarantine and is releasing them this year as a fun Kickstarter event sort of thing. A few of my friends signed up for it, and one got two subscriptions, so he gave it to me. The subscription includes the book as well as some themed knick-knacks. One of my friends gathered the others to make a Book Club for the books coming out, and we had our first meeting this month! I wasn’t able to finish the book in time, but I was able to avoid spoilers and finished later that week.
– Musical-Watching –
My alma mater was showing their Spring musical this month, Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. My older sister, her husband, my boyfriend, and I went to watch it. It was pretty nostalgic since my sister, and I had been in it about eight years ago when we were in sixth and seventh grade. Also, my brother-in-law was in it when he was in high school, as the Prince, no less. After the show, I got to say “hi” to and congratulate former castmates/schoolmates, as well as catch up with two of my favorite former teachers.
– Poker Party –
For his birthday, my brother-in-law hosted a Poker Night. Everyone met up at a restaurant called Primanti’s for dinner, and I had an excellent salad! My sister and my brother-in-law also showed the other guys a sugar packet strategy game as we waited for the food. After dinner, we drove to their house, and while the guys played lawn games, my sister and I got some tea and sat on the porch railings to watch and chat. Eventually, folks headed inside to chat and play Boggle, then Poker began. I didn’t play (I was really tired), so I sat with others who weren’t playing, chatted, and ended up watching a little push-up contest. Eventually, another few rounds of Boggle happened. I was pretty dead tired by the end of the night and didn’t actually get home until around midnight!

How Can I Pray For You In May?
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
