A New Look, A Wedding, and A Big Step // March 2023

,

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a lovely morning, afternoon, or evening! March was really great. I think I overall truly enjoyed this month. From my sister’s wedding (and the first wedding I’ve ever been to) to starting morning walks, this month was enjoyable. My word for March 2023 is “delightful.”

– delightful –

[ dih – lahyt – fuhl ]

DEFINITION: giving great pleasure or delight; highly pleasing:

– Braces Removed –

That’s right! After almost two years, exactly, I got my braces off! I was originally scheduled to get them off on April 25th, but the orthodontist was able to get them off before my sister’s wedding! It feels so great not to worry about breaking a bracket off or getting extra food stuck in my teeth. And I just honestly feel a lot more confident overall!

– Wedding Prep & Rehearsal Dinner –

My older sister got married on a Saturday, so Friday was our big prep day! In the morning, my mom, sisters, and I (along with one of my best friends and fellow bridesmaids) drove to the venue to set up table decor and other decorations, as well as some other random setup. Later that night, we had the rehearsal dinner and practiced our Tarantella one last time! Then, my sisters and I (and yet another bridesmaid) went back to our house to spend the night before the big day!

– The Wedding –

I’m not even sure where to begin on this one because there’s so much. It was my first wedding, it was my sister’s wedding, I was a maid-of-honor, and there was so much happening and so much to take in. I’ll bring you through a basic rundown of the day, I suppose. We had to get to the church by 7:00 AM (got there around 7:15-ish), sat around in our robes (that my older sister got us) while we took turns getting our hair done until noon. Between when we first got there and noon, we ate some donuts and quiches that my mom brought, each got our hair done, did makeup, had mini-interviews with the videographer, and hung out in between everything. The videographer (also one of my sisters and my friends) ran to McDonald’s, so I had an extra caramel iced coffee to get me through the day. Eventually, when we all got our hair done, we took pictures in our robes and then changed into our dresses! We did the “first look” with my older sister, took more pictures as the bridal party, and then returned to our room until the ceremony. We sang some songs and danced a bit to get any nervous jitters out (the lineup included “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”). We also had a chant reminiscent of a high school football, yelling my sister’s soon-to-be last name in deep voices.

Soon, it was time for the ceremony to begin. We went up to our places behind the sanctuary, and I actually went inside early because, right before the procession, I was to sing “Doubly Good To You.” I was really nervous about singing, but later heard from some folks that I “sounded amazing.” That’s a relief! After I sang, I went back to where the rest of the bridesmaids were, grabbed my bouquet, then the procession started! I couldn’t help but smile almost the entire time. I think I cried around three times during the ceremony? After the ceremony, we went back into another room as guests began to leave, then eventually found out that my family was taking pictures and I was supposed to be in a completely different area. I made it, took a bunch more pictures, then my boyfriend drove me to where we were taking wedding party photos (which was fun but very cold), then we drove to the reception hall! We waited about a half hour before my sister and brother-in-law arrived and we could enter the hall. We had fancy little entrances where they announced who we were, then we sat at the head table (which felt very cool) and were served our food! The mashed potatoes were exquisite.

After the meal, they began the dances! I cried throughout all the songs, I’m pretty sure, and there were about four of them. After that, we performed the Tarantella, then it was an open dance floor! I danced almost the entire time with my boyfriend and took many, many breaks to drink some water (also because I didn’t know how to dance and needed something to do). We danced for about two hours? Then, my boyfriend drove me home, and while in the car, I took out the 50-something bobby pins in my little updo… The door was locked when we got to my house, so we chilled until my parents came home and then helped unload the dozens and dozens of cookies. I barely did much after that; I think I immediately changed into my jammies and slept. Overall, it was just such a fun, wonderful day, and I’m honestly excited for the next wedding I attend!

– Long-Distance –

So, since my boyfriend had to move for his job, we’ve been doing long distance! It’s been about three and a half weeks, so I can’t say I have it down or that I’m used to it or any of that. I must say it’s not as bad as I thought, but it’s certainly never something I imagined myself ever doing. It’s funny the way God works things into our lives! Yet, I must say, if anyone has any sort of advice, tips, stories, etc. relating, I would love to hear them, so feel free to leave a comment below!
