Farms, Festivals, and The Great Outdoors // October 2022

,

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a lovely morning, afternoon, or evening! October was pretty chill. I found myself in a calm headspace, I was actively and intentionally reading my Bible and praying more, and I had a good balance of going places and socializing and staying at home and relaxing. Between going to fun fall festivities and hanging with my family outside to get portraits done, my month for October 2022 would have to be “laid-back.”

– Autumnfest –

This was one of the first Fall festivities I went to this season. I went with my older sister, her fiancé, and two other friends, and since it was an hour away or so, we carpooled… in my future brother-in-law’s tiny car… It was interesting. I was in the middle of the back, squished between the other two guys, but honestly, it was for the better. I’m still getting over my car anxiety, so being in the back surrounded by friends made me feel safer and calmer. The festival itself was rather fun. I had enough self-control to not buy all the cool stuff from all the vendors, did some axe throwing for the first time, and saw two alpacas for the first time, too. I did alright with axe throwing; I hit the target about half the times, I’d say. Overall, it was really fun and a great time with great friends.

– Triple B Farms –

I went to this farm with my older sister, her fiancé, and another one of my friends. There was a lot more to do at this place. We went into two different mazes, bought some pumpkins, and saw goats, sheep, pigs, and even peacocks. In the first maze, we split (boys vs. girls), and Emma and I wanted to race the boys and be the first to escape. We got out, didn’t see the boys anywhere, waited for a bit, then went back inside to find them and brag to them. However, we learned that they were trying to find all the signs and had actually escaped about ten minutes earlier but went back inside to finish their little scavenger hunt. Later, we went into the second maze, which was bigger and even had a big lookout bridge. The boys beat us by literally a hair to the bridge and ended up getting out of the maze first, too. My older sister and I were on the bridge, trying to figure out how to escape, and we saw the boys playing basketball outside in the little activity field. We were going to try and escape without them, but they entered the maze again, so my older sister and I hid. They found my sister first, so I booked it and ran. However, I paused for a second too long and accidentally gasped, giving away where I was, so my friend (who plays soccer and is very athletic) ran after me. It was on rough terrain, I was wearing heeled boots, and I have no stamina, so he quickly caught me, but I could have escaped… probably. Again, it was another really fun time with some fun people; it was a great!

– Backpacking –

Every year, my dad takes me and my sisters camping. We’ve done tent camping twice and backpacked once. We agreed to go backpacking again this year. It ended up being… messy. I learned it would be five miles each way the day we left, so I dreaded that a bit. We arrived at the trail at 4:40-ish, and it took us about three hours to walk what ended up being six miles, two (or more) of which were in the dark. I’m scared of the dark, and I’m not gonna lie, I cried. It was terrifying. By the time we got to the campsite, it was around 7:30 at night. My older sister and I went to the bathroom (which was very gross, btw), and as we went to leave, we heard an animal shuffling outside, so we ran back to the shelter. That night, my youngest sister was low-key getting hypothermia and was very nervous, so I played calming music for her, resulting in my phone dying by the morning. It took us forever to get settled and fall asleep. I woke up around four times that night, once at midnight because I had to go to the bathroom, and luckily, my younger sister, Briana, was willing to accompany me. When we awoke the next morning, it was freezing, my dad told us how he almost died of hypothermia, and I, at least, dreaded having to walk six miles back. On the walk back, I think I pulled two muscles in my right leg, or at least hurt it badly because it was excruciating trying to hike a rough terrain with a big ol’ backpack on. Overall, it was not very fun, but we got some cool pictures, and my sisters made it much more bearable. Tent camping is more my style, I think.

– Backyard Football –

My older sister’s fiancé wanted to play football with our young adult church crew, and my older sister and I hosted it at our house since we have a rather big yard. Nine people ended up coming, excluding my sister and me, and four of my younger siblings played, too (off and on). I was still super sore from backpacking (and am also not much of a sports person), so I decided to grab my camera and take some action shots. I took 635 photos but filtered out the bad, blurry, etc. photos and ended with 230 or so. I put some of my favorites down below in the gallery. They were playing “touch-hand-touch football” or something, meaning instead of tackling or even having flags, you had to touch the person with two hands to “get them out” (idk how to play football; don’t judge my terminology). It ended up being really funny because, in many photos, it looks like the guys are hugging or dancing with each other. After football, we sat down to play a mega game of Coup since we had two decks, and I got second place in the first game, then won the next. It was great. It was a great way to spend the morning, and I had tons of fun despite not even playing football.

Outer Banks (Season 1)

  • Adventure / Mystery / Thriller
  • First-time watching
  • MY REVIEW: I really like this show. It’s rather scary and nerve-wracking because I have anxiety, and it’s a thriller/mystery, but I like it. It’s also funny, and they capture a great (and fairly realistic) friend dynamic. Nothing is super predictable, but it’s the good on-the-edge-of-your-seat kinda thing. There is some foul language, and a bit of an icky scene, and I didn’t like that. However, I can’t wait to start season two. I rate this a 9/10!

Coraline

  • Horror / Children’s Film / Thriller
  • First-time watching
  • MY REVIEW: I don’t like this movie. The animation style is creepy, the plot is creepy and weird, and I just don’t like it. Sorry to my older sister, who loves this movie… it’s not my thing. I have to give it a 2/10… I liked the cat.

The School for Good and Evil

  • Fantasy / Fairytale / Book-To-Movie Adaptation
  • First-time watching
  • MY REVIEW: It was good. There were quite a few good lines, unique characters, and circumstances, and the visuals were cool. A few times, I felt some intense second-hand embarrassment, not-so-good acting, and some cliches, but it was overall pretty good. I liked what they did with this movie. I give it a 7/10!

Hubie Halloween

  • Horror / Comedy / Mystery
  • First-time watching
  • MY REVIEW: This was great. It had a star-stacked cast, which really helped, but it had a great balance of horror and comedy. This was the first movie I’ve seen with Adam Sandler, so that was cool, and honestly, everyone kinda popped off with this. A few times, I felt myself cringing, but I think that was part of the comedy aspect. It had a good twist at the end and did a great job of really surprising you with the antagonist reveal at the end. I give this movie a 9/10!
