A New Look, Lots of Friend Time, and A Big Decision // March 2022

,

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a lovely morning, afternoon, or evening! This month was alright. I didn’t follow my routine very well, and I fell into a bad mental state due to stress and anxiety, but there were many times that I felt very happy. So, from getting a new ‘do all the way to stressing about life in general, this was definitely an uppy-downy month.

– A New Look –

I redid my hair! On the first day of March, I had an appointment for hair coloring. Now, it’s nothing too crazy—just some highlights—but I love it! I also got some subtle layers, but it adds a lot more life to my hair, and certain styles just look so much better. In addition to a new hairdo, I also got a new mark… I got a second-degree burn at my workplace one Thursday. I was in the kitchen making fries, and, upon lifting the fry basket (which sits in >200℉ boiling oil), the basket hit my arm. It was probably not even a second, but it BURNED. I hurt it about an hour before we closed, and it stung all the way up until I put gel on it fifteen minutes after we closed. Well, it actually still hurt a bit after I put the gel on. It took around two-ish weeks to fully heal and is now just a pale pink (rather cool-looking) mark on my left forearm. I did post some pictures down below for you to check out 😂

– Lots of Friend Time –

This month, although my poor mental state kept me from feeling motivated and happy, I was able to push myself and leave the house for some church events and Bible study, where I hung out with some friends. I’m still trying to feel comfortable in that new group, especially since I’m younger, newer, and just simply have really bad social anxiety, but I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of it all. In addition to weekly Bible studies (where I felt like I was talking a bit more), my church also hosted a chili cook-off where I hung out, as well. This may seem like a silly accomplishment or event, but as someone who’s never felt like they had true friends and has been shy all their life, it’s kind of big to me. And, you’re on Callie’s blog, so you’re gonna hear about Callie things, okay? Okay. Glad we had that talk.

– A Big Decision –

So, in my last monthly recap, I mentioned that I got a promotion at my workplace and became a trainer. Well, upon receiving my first trainee and creating her training plan, I realized something big. I gave myself a little too much. My mental state plummeted from the stress of being a new trainer and handed someone right away, to my severe social anxiety, to having someone look to for everything, to even learning that I literally don’t know how to communicate with people. I struggle with talking to my trainee and, therefore, failing to be a welcoming role model. Still, I also found myself dreading work, feeling anxious and worried outside of work, and feeling overwhelmed by all the things I have to teach, do, be, and everything in between. I thought about it for a while, spoke to quite a few people about it (even one of our training managers), and currently, I’m wrestling with whether or not I should step down. My manager seems to have a lot of expectations for me to fill, but some of my friends have offered advice, and I’ll be talking with them about everything. So, we’ll have to wait this out and see how I feel, I’m thinking, but… there’s an update 😅

>> Movies & TV Shows Watched <<

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

  • muscial, children’s film, animated
  • second time watching
  • I love this movie. Esmeralda is literally so cool, Phoebus is a MAN, Quasimodo is so sweet. I just love it. Not to mention, the music is great (Alan Menken popped off AGAIN), and the visuals are so pretty. I literally despite Frollo, but he was needed. For one thing, he’s the bad guy, so obviously, but he’s also a pretty accurate representation of the corruption of the Catholic church back in those days. However, I’m very glad that they put in the archdeacon to show the contrast. Yeah, there were (and still are) corrupt “Christians” or “Catholics” or whatever, but not all of us are like that (in fact, those mean people are doing it all wrong 😶)

The Hunchback of Notre Dame II (not finished)

  • musical, romance, animated
  • first time watching
  • We honestly didn’t get too far in watching this movie. However, it’s kinda… not giving. The animation style looks like it’s from the 40s or something even though it was made in 2002, and the overall look of everything is just really bad. I have kinda high hopes for the rest of the movie, though, I’m excited to see where it goes and how everything plays out. So, keep your eye out for next month’s recap where I discuss it!

The Chosen (episodes 1+2)

  • historical drama, Bible
  • first time watching
  • This was really cool. It’s pretty controversial because the creator’s took more of a historical and what-could-have-and-might-have-happened approach to the Gospel, not to mention, they have Jesus in it which a lot of people see as breaking the 2nd Commandment. However, I thought it was really interesting. I don’t think it’s my favorite series or anything, but it is always interesting and cool to watch Biblical movies (well, accurate depictions), and try to visualize and put myself in that sort of time. Especially because, when reading the Bible or hearing all those stories, I tend to not think about it too much, but those things actually happened. Like, those are real-life historical events. Those film adaptations just really help me to understand and see that it was real.

Bridgerton (episode 1)

  • historical fiction, romance
  • first-time watching
  • Okay, I’m honestly loving it so far, except for the abrupt cuts to …icky scenes, if you know what I mean. However, other than that, I love any opportunity to insert myself into a regal time period such as that and pretend I’m a fancy lady and live vicariously through the main female character. I also love how they portray a big family as regal and look to them with respect. Many times in literature and film, big families are portrayed as poor, or simply just looked at weirdly or scornfully, almost (The Weasleys from Harry Potter). As someone from a big family, I’ve sometimes gotten the vibe that people don’t like us just because we’re big (and, therefore, noisy and such), I just call it “having personalities,” but go off, I guess. I’ve even had someone tell me, “Oh, your parents must get busy in the winter.” Ew. Gross. Disgusting. I don’t wanna think about that. But, anyway, I really do love this show so far and I’m excited to watch the rest!
