New Job, Another Surgery, and My First Cabaret // August 2021

,

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a lovely morning, afternoon, or evening! This month was pretty bland if I’m gonna be honest. I still didn’t get much done and even had a few rough patches because of that. From an adventure around a shopping plaza to starting a new job, I’d say August was pretty rough, but a few highlights stood out to me. I hope September is better.

– A Character Quiz –

I created a character/personality quiz for my book, The Star of Juino! I couldn’t figure out how to make an actual, press-a-button-and-it-brings-you-to-the-next-question, computer-generated quiz, but I improvised! I was inspired by The Pen Inspired, and I wrote down the questions and answers, and certain answers correlate with a certain character. You can check it out here, and let me know which character you got by commenting on that page or posting on Instagram with #mysojcharacter

– Another Surgery –

I had another surgery! That means that I’ve had three surgeries over the course of one year. I had my wisdom teeth removed last September, my shoulder would ‘stitched’ in February, and now I had surgery on my foot. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had problems with my right foot, it was always one of my biggest insecurities, and it’s rather complicated, but it’s fixed now! I had the surgery on August 2nd, which means it was exactly a month ago. It’s recovering pretty well, and I cannot wait until I’m fully healed!

– My First Cabaret –

Starting in June, I (along with my sisters) began taking vocal lessons. A few schoolmates had taken lessons with this woman, and we were amazed at their voices, so my mom signed us up, and we started! This woman hosted a cabaret to spotlight each of her students who sing a song. I have never done a cabaret before, and I had just begun vocal lessons, so I was really nervous, especially because I know my voice is pretty subpar. Nonetheless, I had fun, I think I performed okay for my first cabaret, and I’m excited to continue taking lessons.

– Another Job –

As if I have the free time to spare, I decided to pick up a second job. I’m now a preschool aide three days a week at my old school. Luckily, it’s only three days a week, for four hours, but I sorta regret it already… it’s pretty fun, and the kids are adorable, but I realized that I won’t be able to audition for anything because I can’t call off a week or any days with this job. Also, I really just prefer having my mornings free to work on my blog, my WIPs, anything else, but this job takes up half the mornings in my week. Oh, to be a successful author who doesn’t have to worry about finances and part-time jobs…

Raya and the Last Dragon

– family, fantasy, Disney

– first time watching (watched it twice this month)

– LOVE this movie; made me cry

Knives Out

– mystery, suspense, crime

– first time watching

– so good; had it spoiled but, since it’s a mystery movie, it was fun to see how everything played out

Twilight: New Moon

– fantasy, romance, drama

– first time watching (not finished)

– interesting; still a bit cringey; the overall saga has a good concept, but awkward execution
